One of the major artists of the 20th century, and one of the masters of surrealism maintained privileged relationships with several entertainment stars such as Paulette Goddard. They were great friends.

Dali visited the United States several times, including a trip in1932 for the first surrealist exhibition and a stay from 1939 to 1948 to escape the Second World War. At the time he found immense success with American intellectuals and collaborated with, amongst others, Walt Disney (Destino) and Alfred Hitchcock (Spellbound).

Some of Dali’s biographies tell the story of the Thanksgiving dinner in november 1948 when he and his wife Gala were guests of Paulette and her husband Burgess Meredith . To impress her guest, Paulette had the unfortunate idea of asking her chef to serve the wrong pig : Burgess’ pet pig. That marked the end of their marriage.

Ever the grand collector, Paulette certainly bought jewelry designed by Dali as well as some of his surrealist paintings.
